About Build a Batter
Build a Batter is a free browser game where you create your own Major League hitter out of
real players. Spin the reel, land on a random big leaguer, and assign their rating to one of seven attributes
on your batter: Vision, Power, Contact, Speed, Clutch, Discipline and
Frame. Fill all seven and your hitter's Overall rating is revealed.
Then comes the part that matters — Simulate Career plays out every season of your batter's life in
the majors. Home runs, batting titles, MVP awards, World Series rings, milestone chases and eventually a Hall
of Fame vote. Because Contact and Power are weighted most heavily, where you place a superstar's rating changes
the entire arc of the career.
Each run gives you three one-time power-ups: Re-spin to discard a card, Boost to upgrade the
landed player to their Prime version, and Snag to take the player just left or right of where you
landed. Finished hitters can be posted to the global leaderboard or saved to your personal Hall of Fame.
Frequently asked questions
Is GoatLab free to play?
Yes. Every game runs in your browser with no download and no payment. An optional account saves your builds, and optional extras exist, but the games themselves are free.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play, post scores and take on the daily challenge as a guest. Signing in with Google just saves your players to a personal Hall of Fame and carries your progress between devices.
How do I build the best hitter?
Contact and Power carry the most weight in the Overall calculation, so your strongest cards belong there. Frame is height-based and Speed drives defensive value, so a merely average rating in those slots costs you far less.
Where do the player ratings come from?
Every card is a real professional hitter carrying real attribute ratings, refreshed as the season progresses. Retired greats appear as purple legend cards.
